The Auckland Explorer Bus leaves from the Philips Corner/Princes Wharf, Downtown Auckland – near the entrance to Princes Wharf. There are two wharfs for cruise ships, either Princes Wharf or Queens Wharf (by the Ferry Building on Quay St) a 5 minute walk to the bus stop.
If your ship comes in to Princes Wharf when disembarking the ship, exit the terminal and walk down Princes Wharf to the main road which is Quay St. You will see the big ‘Philips’ sign on the building on the corner, this is where the bus stop is. If your ship comes into Queens Wharf then walk off the wharf to Quay St, turn right and you will see the ‘Philips’ sign on the corner approx. 250 m away.
You can download from our website, obtain from a driver or more likely our people will meet you when you disembark.
There is no need to book for the Explorer Bus, just join the circuit when you are ready. More buses are brought onto the circuit as numbers require.
You can book online on this web site or you can buy a ticket from the driver if you have cash.
American and Australian dollars also accepted. $US35 and $A45 each ($NZ45) is accepted by the driver.
If you wish to pay by credit card then tickets can be purchased from the travel desk inside the Ferry Building or the i-Site Information Centre.
Absolutely, as the bus operates on a hop on hop off system if you wish to return to the ship for lunch just walk back from the Stop 9, then join the bus again in the afternoon. However, as New Zealand has a reputation for excellent food it would be a shame not to try some local cuisine while you are here.
